프랑스 과학자들이 레오나르도 다빈치(da Vinci)의 명작 '모나리자·사진'의 신비한 미소의 비밀을 일부 풀어냈다고 AP통신이 16일 보도했다.
프랑스박물관연구복원센터 전문가들은 최근 X선 형광분광기를 동원, 모나리자 물감층 종류와 물감의 화학성분 등을 정밀 분석했다. 분석 결과, 다빈치가 모나리자의 눈가와 입가 등에 산화망간 성분의 얇은 막을 최대 30겹까지 입혔다는 사실이 새로 확인됐다. 연구책임자 필립 왈터는 "물감 막의 두께가 머리카락 두께의 절반가량인 40마이크로미터 이하였다"며 다빈치의 초정밀 스푸마토(sfumato) 기법에 놀라움을 감추지 못했다. 스푸마토 기법은 그림에 여러겹의 물감과 광택제를 덧칠해 사물의 윤곽선을 안개에 싸인 것처럼 흐릿하게 처리하는 기법. 이 기법이 적용된 그림은 화면에 깊이감과 온화한 느낌을 준다.
